Ingredients
Method
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a round cake pan or line it with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes.
- Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Alternately add the dry ingredients and buttermilk to the butter mixture, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
- Add green food coloring to the batter and mix until you achieve the desired shade of green for the 'grass' effect.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Let the cake cool completely before decorating.
- Spread a thin layer of vanilla frosting over the top and sides of the cake.
- In a bowl, toss the shredded coconut with a few drops of green food coloring until it resembles grass. Sprinkle this coconut evenly over the frosted cake.
- Create a 'sand trap' by placing a small section of crushed chocolate sandwich cookies on the coconut 'grass'.
- Roll a small piece of white fondant into a ball to create a golf ball. Place it on the cake near the 'sand trap'.
- Insert a mini golf flag (optional) into the cake to complete the golf theme.
- Serve the cake and enjoy celebrating Father's Day with this fun golf-inspired dessert!
Notes
You can substitute shredded coconut with green sprinkles for the grass effect if preferred.
