Equipment

  • mixing bowl
  • small bowl
  • baking sheet
  • parchment paper
  • pastry brush
  • sharp knife or kitchen scissors

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a small bowl, mix the melted butter, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and parsley.
  3. In another bowl, combine the mozzarella, cheddar, and Parmesan cheeses.
  4. Lightly flour a work surface and divide the pizza dough into 8 equal pieces.
  5. Flatten each piece into a small oval, then place a spoonful of the cheese mixture in the center.
  6. Fold the dough over the filling and pinch tightly to seal, shaping each piece into a smooth ball or slightly oval roll.
  7. Arrange the rolls seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet, placing them close together if desired for a pull-apart effect.
  8. Use a sharp knife or kitchen scissors to make 2 small angled cuts at one end of each roll to form the football shape, then use a thin strip of dough or a knife tip to create laces on top if desired.
  9. Brush the rolls generously with the garlic butter mixture, then brush lightly with the beaten egg mixed with water for a golden finish.
  10. Bake for 18 to 22 minutes, or until the rolls are puffed and deep golden brown and the cheese is melted inside.
  11. Remove from the oven and brush with any remaining garlic butter. Sprinkle with extra parsley and let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
  12. Serve warm with marinara sauce or ranch for dipping.

Notes

For best results, keep the dough at room temperature so it is easier to shape. If desired, you can make the rolls slightly smaller for a larger party platter or add extra cheese for a gooier center.
