Equipment

  • oven
  • baking sheet
  • spatula
  • measuring cups

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Lightly grease a large baking sheet with olive oil or cooking spray.
  2. Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single layer on the baking sheet and season lightly with salt and pepper if desired.
  3. Bake the tater tots for 20 to 25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
  4. Remove the baking sheet from the oven and sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the hot tater tots.
  5. Return the pan to the oven for 3 to 5 minutes, just until the cheese is melted.
  6. Top with crumbled bacon, sliced green onions, and jalapeños if using.
  7. Serve immediately with sour cream on the side or drizzled over the top.

Notes

For extra crispiness, avoid overcrowding the baking sheet and flip the tater tots halfway through baking. You can swap jalapeños for sliced pickles or leave them out for a milder appetizer.
